garvey-parkThese days there’s such a mix of wedding styles that we never fail to be surprised. Sarah and AJ’s wedding was one such experience. Their wedding ceremony was a traditional Anglican ceremony at St Matthews Church in Stirling Square, Guildford.Quite a historical church, being built in 1873. Of special significance was Aj’s brother who participated in conducting the wedding ceremony.

The twist on tradition came when they decided to have a picnic style wedding reception along the river in Garvey Park Ascot. The park is a beautiful location along Perth’s magnificent Swan River. The family photographs and the bridal photos were taken around the grounds of Stirling Square in Guildford. It was then only a short drive to Ascot where we took some more wedding photos along the river before they joined their guests for the lunch-time wedding reception at Garvey Park.

Trestle tables and chairs had been set up under the tall shady gums and bunting put together by Sarah hung between the trees. Sarah had made the bunting from remnants of special fabric and doilies. Sarah and AJ had enlisted the services of Perth’s Hatch Catering to prepare and serve the gourmet lunch, – what a great move! Their holistic approach to food shone through with garden fresh salad, homemade dips and a wonderful selection of cheeses, meats and breads. I have to say their ice  cream was to die for! Music was playing through out the day and after the formalities of the speeches and cake cutting were over, Sarah and AJ took to the dance floor with a wonderful warm response from all who were observing at Garvey Park.

Sarah’s wedding gown was also non traditional. She chose instead to wear a full length, vibrantly coloured skirt from Khazana, an Indian style fashion boutique in Osborne Park. She teamed with that her “faithful” Love Joy shoes that toned perfectly, a Country Road camisole and a shawl to wear in the church. Sarah’s hair was styled by Leanne Tollis and her sister Rebecca Cleaves did Sarah’s bridal makeup. The flowers were sourced from Guilbert’s Fresh in Hilton and her friend Kim put the bouquets, church and table arrangements together for them. Interestingly Guilbert’s has a range of flowers with an emphasis on native flora. You can bring along a vase and they’ll arrange a creation for you to take home or even a bouquet for a special occasion. AJ made an unusual and eye catching choice for Sarah’s engagement ring choosing a Tourmaline Gem in a pear or tear-drop cut. AJ had this made at Zamels. The wedding rings were purchased from Prouds.
